English Darts – It's the 16 century history

Britain is famous for the game of darts. I thought it would be of interest for this article about Darts – It is early English in 16. Century and is the story.

The sport of darts began as training in the art of archery. Darts began in medieval England, historians speculate, because no one knows with certainty that the teaching archery shortened some arrows and had their students to pitch in the bottom of an empty wine barrel.

said that darts even reached the new world on the Mayflower. Darts in the United States is not really popular until the late nineteenth century, when immigrants from England, came and took the game with them. Like much of American history, the roots of darts in the United States dates back to the pilgrims. These hardy colonizers were reputed to have played the game on the Mayflower as it made its ocean crossing. Like the game of horseshoes being played then avidly in America whenever the available leisure time.

In fact, the game of darts that we know today originated hundreds of years of English bars ago and is still called English darts for many when it comes to today's game of darts.

The fact that the bottom of an empty wine barrel used is a clue to how the game became a hobby. It is believed that the soldiers took their shortened arrows with them to the local drinking establishment to both exhibit their skills and have fun at the same time. When the bottoms of wine barrels proved to be inconvenient or in short, some dart launcher of the invention presented in a section section of a tree of moderate size.

The "board" provided rings, and when it has dried, the cracks provided further segmentation. This plate cracked and dry started to evolve into what we regard as the current dart board.

A game as fun as darts could not hide from the upper classes and soon put his own stamp on the game. The oft married Henry VIII was reputed to enjoy the game greatly. So much so, that he gave a beautiful ornate set by Anne Boleyn.

However, the dart remained largely an Anglo-American sport until the Victorian era, when spread across the world through the great expansion of the British Empire. It seems that the "sun never set on the British Empire." At the same time, there was never a time when a dart was not in the air. Many native populations were exposed to the game and found enjoyment in it.

The international online launch of 7 feet 9 1 / 4 inches was established in the 1970 to be standard for international competitions, as in the country (or sometimes, even the place), the throwing line was between 7 feet 6 inches to 8 feet also, throughout the early part of the 20, there were many different types of targets to the board the 'clock' became the norm … Actually it was not until after World War II many of the rules of darts became standard. Now people around the world can enjoy the sport of darts in international competitions in leagues, or at private parties and all be on equal footing.

So next time you put your toe to the line and raise a dart at the board, remember that there is a rich history behind this exciting sport.

The projection distance also became standard during this time. There was a brewery called Hockey and children who provided beer to much of southwest England. The length of the three children's hockey and barrels placed one after another became the standard throwing distance. It is generally believed that the phrase "abiding by the hockey comes from.

It was also during this time that the game really started gaining popularity, especially in pubs. There is a funny story that happened in 1908. In this time in England, gambling is illegal and bar owner in Leeds was taken to court for allowing the darts to be played there because it was believed a game of chance. If the legend is true, when the bar owner appeared in court brought along a dartboard and some darts. Then he asked one of officers of the court to appoint a number on the board, the staff required and the owner of a bar then click on that number with three darts. The owner of a bar then challenged anyone in court to do the same. A clerk tried and failed and the judge dismissed the case immediately because obviously was a game of skill, not chance.

As the game became more popular, bar owners put up targets and the game continued to spread and gaining popularity. Naturally, as more and more played, Rhey began to form leagues and organizations. The organization first formed in 1924 in England. An English newspaper began to sponsor local competitions which later became in regional and national tournaments. At one point the game became so popular that the Scottish government tried to ban the game in bars, saying it encourages bad habits. The public was not presented to it and the ban was never place.

The game continued to grow in popularity in the twentieth century. annual tournament held in England sponsored by the News of the World; These tournaments really helped boost the popularity of the game and this tournament ran from 1947 to 1990. During this time the game was also growing in popularity in Great Britain and the United States.

In the shafts of the mid-seventies had become so popular in Britain that the tournaments were televised. With this type of advertising the game was becoming a serious sport with professional actors. This led to more players and bigger prizes in tournaments. This huge growth in popularity led to the creation of major national governing tournaments, promoted the sport, attracting more sponsors.

The first of these organizations was the British Darts Organization was founded in 1973. The American Darts Organization followed in 1975, and dozens of other countries. There is also World Dart Federation (WDF), which almost all national organizations darts belong, the WDF was formed in 1976 and is considered the official governing body for sport of darts.

Technology has not taken account of the game either. Today we have electronic targets that can automatically keep track for you, has dozens of games built into them, electronic scoreboards, and some tips even talk to you. These technological advances have fostered the popularity only sport to make the game much more accessible.
