Olympic qualification for Venezuela to 99
The number of athletes from Venezuela to compete in the Beijing Olympics rose to 99, President of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV) Eduardo Alvarez announced Monday.
Alvarez made the announcement after celebrating the triumph of Gabriel Rodriguez and Jose Ramos who won the gold medal in the 500 meters in the pre-Olympic test of navigation in Canada, which gave the pass for Beijing 2008.
"The kids went to six finals and won two silver medals, two gold medals and qualifications for the K2 in 500 meters." Alvarez said while distinguishing the exploits of young athletes.
Alvarez also celebrated the classification that wrestler Marcia Andrade got on Saturday. Alvarez also reported that 60 other athletes have the potential to increase the delegation of Venezuela.
There are five other athletics, two in cycling and navigation three athletes could celebrate their place in the Olympics, including Rolando Salas and Erwin Maldonado.
In the men's wrestling will compete with Venezuela five athletes in two tournaments and archery will compete in another event with 10 athletes, said Alvarez.
Alvarez also made reference about pending competitions triathlon and beach volleyball, which makes 14 events that raised the expectations of Venezuela to win passes for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
