National Lottery Gold Britiain put back into
The National Lottery has been successful for many years, both for heritage projects and national decision-millionaire members of the public. One of the most recent success stories of late, although it has been the performance of the Olympic selection British Team GB, as it became known, due to the influx of funds received for sports through the system of Lottery funding National Sport UK.
The British Olympic sports team training to fit around a normal everyday working nine to five. This training part-time is what led to Britain's reputation of being lackeys gold medal. Back in the 1990s, former Prime Minister John Major introduced funds Lottery for sports to British athletes could concentrate on his talent. The Government also pledged to increase funding available for these calls Podium-level athletes. This funding is intended to encourage new sports talent, providing better facilities and training and to improve the chances of winning gold medals in the Olympics.
The Sydney 2004 Olympic Games was a big disappointment for the British cycling team, and the British team in general. This was all about to change, but in preparation for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games held in China. Each athlete received 75,000 pounds Podium Level sterling a year, to focus on training and be able to get rid of the day job. Of that money, £ 25,000 goes to the athlete as a salary and rest of the money goes to pay for training, training facilities and medical specialists. In total, £ 235 million is provided through the United Kingdom sports funding for all levels of training. The Government provides 60 percent of this figure and the remaining 40 percent comes from income funds in our lottery tickets and Saturday night shift ticket purchases.
This influx was found to be a huge success, and was most notable in the performance of the team GB cycling team. The dedication to training and attention to the smallest details to improve performance led to a lot of gold medals be packaged. Some say that funding for the Olympic sport is an extraordinary amount of money that are provided in comparison with the benefits, and is disproportionate when considering other ways the money could be used.
The defense spending is on the promotion of national pride and a sense of accomplishment. It is argued that having a sports team going for gold and manages to develop a sense of belonging to the communities and around the country. The national pride is a unifying and inspiring experience to the younger generation to devote their time to sports, which in turn keeps them off the streets, away from drugs and alcohol and keep them healthy.
Is it really too high a price to pay to keep the youth of today inspired, and provide facilities to spend time in. The funding is not just about medals Olympic is also the welfare of children in the country and how it can improve our nation as a whole. UK sports facilities available tennis, badminton, archery and swimming, to name just a few and provides training too. This has a beneficial effect on most issues, in urban and poor areas. At present no facilities for children and young adults, and plans for those who normally could not afford to participate. There is also a goal, a reason to work hard. The next time you buy a lottery ticket and hope to bag the grand prize, remember that you are contributing to the pot of gold that could change someone's life.
