To be or not to be … Martial martial artist or athlete
The practice of various martial arts, I discovered that there is a difference between being a martial artist and a martial athlete. Talk with professors and teachers of different arts I could see that many fear is right for the championship. Why this fear?
When learn a martial art the way it was created, for example, with the initial purpose of it, you realize there are no rules in a real fight. There is one, indeed, survival. That does not mean that we must learn to "hit in the hand", but in others there is a reason for art to be trained in this way, there is a whole philosophy behind movement and the combat itself.
When playing sports and train for a championship, their only goal is to win. Then there is a lot of resemblance to art traditional warrior, but for the martial art, to mutilate the knowledge to fit into the norms and rules of a competition. important pieces of knowledge should be withdrawn from the competition is healthy and no one disabled. But maybe, just martial art parties that sought to teach something to those who study and practice.
Personally, great respect for athletes of any sport and I think that people who cause the body to the limit. So I am in no way degrading the trainers championship of martial arts. What I mean is that most of them, oriental arts, have developed a personal and spiritual growth, and eventually end up becoming a battle of egos. Who is better than whom?
Training martial arts, but above all the word art. I try to understand my body, mind and spirit to fight through I know that everyone can pass. And personally, I do not like coaching styles to the championship, despite knowing that many (most) within them is helpful in my martial arts training.
It is a matter of choice: be a martial artist or martial sport? Perhaps there is some way be both, but I, in my humble opinion, I do not see how. All teachers of different martial arts I've met say that there is a specific training for those who compete in all competitions to participate requires total concentration of these norms and standards. In case of a strike to get more, as advice to finish the fight, and so on, depending on the style of each.
If training is not the same, probably not the result of it. Focus to be better than the opponents, to reach the first place. In a "normal", they were not key areas but improve yourself every day.
All this also depends on the specific style of martial art, and I know nothing. In addition, there are still only addressed championships shapes, bearings, defense techniques, etc. Many of these directly involve art, since its objective is the perfection of the participant's movements.
Anyway, This message intended to express a little of what I've seen and the ideas that arise in the head. These are things that directly affect my training and my options. And, well, my choice is art.
