A Japanese martial art – Kyudo
What is Kyudo?
Kyudo is the term for the traditional practice that uses Japanese bow as a means for self-examination and understanding. In this practice, the relationship between physical action and feelings makes this professional a very personal experience, not unlike a form of meditation – many popular activities such as tai chi or yoga have this holistic approach to mind / body.
Kyudo is "The Way of the Bow" When the bow became obsolete a weapon the spiritual aspect of archery was developed as a discipline for peace and self-cultivation.This union was achieved through the strength of the warrior tradition with the dignity of the ceremony. As a path of personal growth and development, the concept of Reisetsu – respect on the other, became the moral discipline which united these two aspects and formed the basis for the practice of Kyudo. In meeting desire, negative thoughts, and physical difficulties the practice of Kyudo offers individuals the opportunity to know their limitations, and enjoy the challenge of this confrontation. You realize that problems are not in the bow, or the target property, but in oneself. If this practice is accepted and carried out sincerely then the energy the shooting begins to enrich one's life. The technique can not be considered without an understanding of spiritual energy. Neither aspect can function without the other. The acquisition technique increases with increasing body-mind awareness to form a harmonious working together of the bow, body and spirit.
Is it a martial art?
Traditional Japanese sports because of their origin is often known as martial arts. But this is often simplistic and misleading description, and may confuse these practices to combat or martial arts. The Japanese term for these practices is budo which means a way to eliminate conflict and seek harmony. Practice Kyudo as it is seeking harmony and peace in the individual and contribute to a peaceful society, which is far from the popular image of a martial art.

The location of the practice of Kyudo following a traditional design and format, and Japan is provided by the local municipality, college or school. It is known as a "kyudojo." It has a shooting inside surface height to increase the arches (over 4 meters) and a wooden floor that allows the ceremonial firing exercise in which some movement of knees and a smooth walking surface is required. Security
