Confucius and Chinese philosophy
Depending on the person or religious scholar, Confucianism is known as a philosophy and a religion by others. Most to understand as a form of humanism that encompasses everything that does not deny or try to prove that there is (or not) a heaven.
In any case, has had an influence on spiritual and political arena of China and has spread to countries like Japan, Vietnam and Korea. The percentage of East Asians who identify themselves as Taoists Buddhist, Muslim, Christian or Shinto, Never leave Confucian roots, and are considered the two religions.
The religion was founded at some point between the fifth-sixth century BC in China. Confucius lived from 551 to 479 BC. About 5.5 million people practicing the religion (or philosophy) what you want translate it.
Confucianism is not a word of Asia. In fact, originated in 1700 and in Latin.
Confucius was born into a poor house whose family were part of the aristocracy of the feudal state of Lu, in what is now Shantung province of China. He became a devoted student in his teens with the support of her mother that could become a scholar in his later years. His father died before completing four years of age.
Although no one knows where or how Confucius became education, history has shown us that he mastered six arts, mathematics, driving cars, calligraphy, archery, music and rituals in their twenties. He began a teaching career unparalleled in their thirties. At that time if he had not mastered, he was very familiar with poetry and history well enough to teach well.
Over the years of his teachings he had a goal to implement their learning and transfer politics. This became a problem because of their loyalty to the king, which isolated him from wielding power during his adult life, Chi-known families. Moral rectitude was not the solution to the king's inner circle.
In his mid 50's, he realized these dynamics and left hoping that China could find another government to accept their vision of mixing politics with education. He could not but even through years of frustration over a decade, he managed to become a master in exile and developed an impressive reputation of a man of unique insight and reputation spread worldwide.
Twelve years later he returned to China to teach and try to make public its evolution and classical traditions in writing. Lived eight years and died at the age of seventy-three in 479 BC.
In the Analects (2:4) that summarizes his life in just a few sentences:
At 15 I put my heart into learning, at age 30 took my position strongly, 40 had no delusions, 50 knew the Mandate of Heaven, at 60 my ear was attuned; to 70 I followed my heart's desire without overstepping the limits of law.
Also in the Analects, Confucius helps a student who was having difficult to describe:
Why not just say something about it is the type of man who forgets to eat when he engages in the search vigorous training, which is full of joy that you forget your worries, and not realize that old age is coming? (7:18)
Confucianism actually did not begin with Confucius. Confucius was not even the founder of the religion, as Jesus did not give found Christianity, and many other religious leaders which religions are founded later in his honor, but Buddha established Buddhism.
"A transmitter consciously tried to recapture the sense of the past by breathing life into "seemingly outmoded rituals, as Confucius was considered. Confucius' love of antiquity was motivated by his strong desire to understand why certain rituals such as ancestor worship, reverence for the sky, and the ceremonies of mourning, had survived for centuries. He had faith in the cumulative power of culture. Confucian sense of history was so strong that he saw himself as a conservationist responsibility for the continuity of cultural values and social norms that had worked so well for the civilization of the Chou dynasty.
While Taoism and Buddhism had strong influences in China, which paled in comparison with Confucian ethics. The revival of Confucian thought in the 11th century neo-Confucianism was a great influence in Korea during the Choson dynasty and in Japan during Tokugawa period.
In 1530 AD, a Ming emperor worship of Confucius reformed to focus more on the teachings of the sage Confucius himself (eg images of Confucius were replaced by tablets inscribed). The worship of Confucius was reduced after the founding of the Republic of China in 1912, but the influence of Confucianism continues.
Confucianism is characterized by a very optimistic view of human nature. Faith in the possibility of ordinary human beings to become wise impressive and worth is deeply rooted in Confucian heritage (Confucius himself lived a fairly normal life), and the insistence that human beings can be taught, improved and perfectible through personal and community effort is typically Confucian.
Confucius considers Heaven (T'ien) as a positive force in personal and universe, he was not, as many have suggested an agnostic or a skeptic of a universal higher power.
