Destinations in Asia – Tibet, a land of enchantment

One of the most exotic tourist destinations and mystery, Tibet is the definitive place for climbers, hikers, adventure and those interested in Buddhism. Located in the main part of the Qinghai Tibet, southwest China's border, covering an area of 463,320 miles square, at an average elevation of 13,123 feet above the seat, Tibet is known as the Roof of the World for good reason. Isolated from the subcontinent Indian Himalaya by Grande, this fabled land is home to many of the highest summits of the world, with more than 50 peaks that are more than 22 996 feet above sea level.

Although Tibet's history goes back thousands of years, written history goes back to the seventh century, when King Songtsan Gampo, who united Tibet Sambhota sent his minister to India to study Sanskrit. Upon his return, Sambhota invented writing this based on Tibetan Sanskrit.

Most Tibet's population is native to Tibet, with a number of ethnic minorities and related ethical fewer Chinese, Mongols and Kazakhs. An agrarian society, farmers account for 90 percent of the population.

Mahayana Buddhism is the predominant religion of Tibet, even though Bon practiced. The Buddhist faith is deeply rooted and covers all aspects of life in Tibet and its people.

Home of the Festival of Tibet Losar, the Tibetan New Year (February or March) is one of the most important festivals in Tibetan, as it is a time for family reunions and convey the greetings and best wishes for the new year.

Monlam Festival (First until the 15th of the first month of the lunar years) is the largest religious gathering in Tibet. It was introduced by Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Yellow Sect, in 1490 AD. During the Festival, Lamas three largest monasteries gather in the Jokhang to recite the scriptures and prepare to do a test to the next grade.

Saga Dawa Festival (May / June) is the holiest of the festival in Tibet. It celebrates the birth of Buddha and his enlightenment.

Gyantse Horse Race and Archery Fest takes place in May or June. The horse riding and archery are popular in Tibet, and Gyantse enjoys prestige of being the cradle of both activities in Tibet. Under the lunar calendar, Gyantse Festival offers contests riding and archery followed by a few days of other activities.

Shoton Festival in August. Shoton, yogurt festival is the largest festival in Tibet. In the past, pious people came into mountain hermitages to do penance. On the last day of penance, as a reward, and yoghurt was served followed by entertainment. Today, it has become a music festival which usually lasts seven days.
